Edmonton Pet Events & Festivals Guide – 2017

From trade shows to outdoor festivals, there are tons of fun Edmonton pet events for pet lovers to enjoy throughout the year! We’ve put together a list of the most popular 2017 Edmonton area events for pet owners to attend on their own, as well as some pet-friendly events and fundraisers where your furry friends can join in the fun!

January

Edmonton Pet Expo

When: January 28 – 29, 2017 – Sat: 10:00am – 6:00pm Sun: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Where: Edmonton Expo Centre
Can You Bring Your Pet? No
The Pet Expo is also all about FUN. With plenty of presentations, animal demonstrations, agility courses, and sporty dog teams, there is so much to see and do. We have all kinds of fluffy, feathery, and scaly friends for you to interact with as well. Is your pet dying for new toys, treats, and more? Explore the products and services available to owners and pets all in one convenient place. For everyone’s safety (animals included), please leave your own pets at home.

Pet Sitters Course for Kids

When: January 22, 2017 – 10:00am – 4:00pm
Where: Edmonton Humane Society
Can You Bring Your Pet? No This course is designed for kids ages eleven to fifteen years and is similar to a babysitting course, but is focused on caring for friend’s and family’s pets.

City of Edmonton Off Leash Park Community Clean Up

When: Saturday, April 29 1:00 – 2:00 pm
Where: Terwillegar Park & Jackie Parker Recreation Area
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!

Come help clean up at the City’s ‘They Poop, We Scoop’ Event! Gloves, water, bags, and snacks are provided for volunteers as well as some free stuff for pet owners!

Where: Buena Vista Park & Dawson Park
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!

Understanding and Interacting with Strong Dog Breeds

When: Saturday, May 20, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Where: Clareview Community Recreation Centre
Can You Bring Your Pet? No

Join the City of Edmonton, Animal Care & Control Centre for an afternoon of learning to understand and interact with strong dog breeds. Any dog can bite and bites don’t necessarily mean the dog is a “bad dog”. Whether an owner or someone greeting a dog, there are proactive steps you can take to ensure a safe and happy interaction. Registrations required as space is limited. This is a FREE event but a donation of animal supplies to Berkeley’s Place would be appreciated.

MEOW Mania

Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes! (Pre-registration of cat required)

MEOW MANIA is offering a unique opportunity for breeders, local rescues and the general public to network and share their love of cats. ANYONE can enter their cat in MEOW MANIA; we just need the kitties preregistered. This is a great opportunity to do a trial run if you think you may want to show your cat! Come see specific cat breeds, household pet cats and learn about general cat care. This event allows people to get up close to cats – a common interest of us all. As part of this MEOW MANIA we will be having a Silent Auction, Vendors (product and service), Children’s Activities, and Informational Seminars.

Beagle Paws Rescue June Walk-a-Thon 

When: June 11th, 2017 – 10:30 a.m.
Where: Kingswood Park, 395 Sturgeon Rd., St. Albert

This fundraiser is in support of the Edmonton Chapter of Beagle Paws. All Dogs and their People WELCOME !! There will be BBQ by donation, Doggy Games and Contests, Silent Auction, FREE Gift Bags for ALL participants. BARS Tattoos for Rescues

When: June 24th, 2017 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

BARS second tattoo event will take place on June 24th back at Second Skin Custom Tattoos in Edmonton. Tattoos are $105, with half the cost being donated to BARS for our animals! Check out the event page for updates as they come, and reserve your spot today! Pre-registration is required, and this event is 18+.

Pets in the Park 5k

When: June 25th, 2017
Where: William Hawrelak Park
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!

Pets in the Park, Edmonton’s Official Pet Festival, is back for another year and it will be a howlin’ good time and a ton of “doggone” fun! Lace up your sneakers, grab your pooch and bring your family down to William Hawrelak Park. This is the only day pets are welcome in the park, so lace up your sneakers, stretch those paws and bring the family down for sun, fun and a dog-gone good time!


July

Putts for Mutts

When: July 7th, 2017 1:00 p.m.

Come out and have some fun while raising money and supporting humane animal rescue team and our mission to save abandoned, unwanted and abused dogs. We are so excited to hold hart’s second annual charity golf tournament. Come for a day of fun in the sun and help raise money for abandoned and stray dogs. The tournament is a Texas Scramble where your registration includes, golf, cart, hole in one opportunity, banquet dinner and door prizes! You will see adoptable dogs and ambassadogs on site!

Muttstock 

When: July 8th, 2017 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Where: Eastwood Community Hall
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!
MuttStock is a gathering of Dog/Animal lovers at the Eastwood Community Hall. This event is intended to bring awareness to animal rescue associations, proper animal care, and local pet related businesses. As well as to bring the pet loving people of the area to the off leash park and family friendly areas of the community, fostering a feeling of community and family in Eastwood. MuttStock is a free Community Event, but donations are welcome. Come down, bring your Furbuddies and let’s have an amazing time. There will be vendors, water park for puppies, the splash park and regular park for kidlets, face painting, balloon animals, hula hoopers, BBQ, food vendors, photo booth, amazing live bands and so much more. Dogs must be on a leash at all times! BYOC Bring your own chair!

Tails on the Trails Bark Party

When: July 29th, 2017 – 3:00 – 10:00 pm
Where: Lion’s Park, Sir Winston Churchill Avenue, St. Albert
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!
Collect pledges and join us for a family-friendly day of fun. The event will raise funds to help fight pet abandonment, help the sick and injured, help create awareness and work towards long-term solutions to Alberta’s pet overpopulation problem. Support our cause and walk for SCARS! Please ensure that pets who attend are leashed at all times, have up-to-date vaccinations and are reasonably sociable with other animals.


August

Edmonton Kennel Club Summer Show

When: August 10 – 13, 2017
Where: Whitemud Equine Centre, 12505 Keillor Rd NW, Edmonton, AB

When: August 13, 2017 – 12:00 p.m – 5:00 p.m
Where: Edmonton Humane Society
Can You Bring Your Pet? YES!

This one-of-a-kind event will bring together some of the city’s best pet and animal-themed vendors on the EHS and ACCC shared campus. There will also be tasty food trucks and fun, interactive activities for animal lovers of all ages, including…Behind-the-scenes tours at EHS and ACCC Meet real-life animal heroes Stretch and purrr along in EHS cat yoga – classes at 12:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m. You can also explore hand-made treats and toys, custom pet wear, hand-crafted animal themed clothing and accessories, pet photographers and more!

 

Pit Bull Days hosted by the Pitt Bulls for Life Foundation of Alberta

Open to the public and friendly dogs on leashes allowed. Doggy games, pancake breakfast, BBQ Demos and more!

Doggie Dip for YMCA Strong Kids

When: August 27, 2017 – Time TBD
Where: Jamie Platz Family YMCA
Can You Bring Your Pet? Yes!
Bring your pooch to the YMCA to swim in the pool before we drain it for our annual shutdown! There are different swim times for small and big dogs, and all proceeds go to support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. A minimum of $12 donation and registration is required. Please visit your local YMCA to register!

    The city is doing spring poop clean ups at 6 off leash areas on Aprill 22, Aprill 29 and May 6. The dates, times and locations are on Edmonton.ca/offleash they are dog friendly and will have free stuff for owners
