From trade shows to outdoor festivals, Calgary has tons of events for pet lovers to enjoy throughout the year! We’ve put together a list of the most popular 2017 Calgary events for pet owners to attend on their own, as well as some pet-friendly events and fundraisers where your furry friends can join in the fun!

Branch Out Snowshoe Tour 2017

Calling all show-stopping snow lovers! Those temperatures outside are dropping and we can’t wait to see you at the 3rd annual Branch Out Snowshoe Tour on Saturday, February 18, 2017. This year, we’re on a mission to give you, your family and friends (including those furry 4-legged ones!) an exciting march through the snow.

Four Feet Fiesta

Calgary Woman’s ShowVets To Go Fashion To The Rescue

Calgary Cat Association “Kitties in Blooms Cat Show”

When: April 8-9, 2017 10:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m
Where: Shouldice Arena

The Calgary Cat Show is held twice per year and gives cat owners the chance to compete to win titles in various categories. Both pedigreed and companion (or moggy) cats are can enter. Attendees will also find many vendors marketing their products that are for both human and feline use.

AARCS Dueling Pianos Fundraiser

When: April 13, 2017 Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Aussie Rules

Party the night away for AARCS with live entertainment of Dueling Pianos! Last year’s inaugural event was sold-out and raised over $17,000 for the animals in AARCS’ care!

National Service Dogs’ Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs

When: April 14th, 2017 – 9:00 a.m
Where: Calaway Park

Each year, thousands of plastic eggs are filled with dog treats and hidden over a defined area of a local park. Each egg contains a dog treat and a sticker, representing a chance to win one of the hundreds of great prizes!

17th Annual Calgary Pet Expo

When: April 22-23
Where: Spruce Meadows, Equiplex
Can You Bring Your Pet? No

Pet Expo is a 2-day consumer trade show that is open to the public. At the show, you will find hundreds of pets, pet products, service providers, entertainers, clubs and organizations that cater to pets. The show strives to include all types of pets, anything from dogs & cats, to reptiles and other small caged exotics.

Dog Fest Spring Fling

When: May 6, 2017 – 10:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m

DogFest is an indoor/outdoor doggy playdate, tradeshow/ marketplace, portrait studio and fundraiser for Pals Pets. This dog-friendly event will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on May 6, 2017 at Triwood Arena in Calgary, AB, CA. Admission is $10 per dog, free for humans (waiver is required).

Treat Your Dog Day Event

When: May 13, 2017 – 10:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m
Where: Sue Higgins Park

Can You Bring Your Pet? 
Yes!

There will be free treats, pet groomers doing complimentary grooming, and more! Local Calgary pet cancer awareness charity the Kali’s Wish Foundation is throwing the event to give pet owners the opportunity to learn more about the prevention of pet cancer and the work that Kali’s Wish does to educate pet guardians on the topic of pet cancer and its prevention.

Cochrane & Area Humane Society 1st Annual Airdrie Mutt Strut

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society (CAHS) is excited to hold our first annual Airdrie Mutt Strut on Saturday, May 27th at East Lake Park.  Join us for a fun family day out with your dog.  Along with a walk, check out our pet friendly vendors.  Registration details coming soon!  Check out our website for more information.

Enjoy a fun family day out with your dog at our 16th Annual Mutt Strut on Saturday, May 27th at Mitford Park.  You and your dog will enjoy a walk along the lovely Bow River, with a 5 km and 1 km route option.  Check out our fantastic people and pet vendors at our marketplace area.  Have your dog’s photo taken by The Dog With a Bow Pet Photography. Dog Jog is a celebration of family and friendship! Calgary Humane Society uses the funds raised at Dog Jog to find loving forever families for thousands of animals each year. This year we will be celebrating families of all shapes and sizes by packing South Glenmore Park full of family-friendly (and Fido-friendly!) activities for people and pooches of all ages to enjoy.

Grab a bite to eat from local food trucks or a refreshing beer from the folks at Village Brewery in our new all-age food + beverage garden called the Mutt & Mingle. Shop for goodies in the Barkingville Market, visit the bouncy castles in the Kids Zone or direct your pooch to the “Paw Spa” for some pampering; we have something planned for everyone!

2017 Sleep Rover Rally

Sleep Rover Rally – A six obstacle team course designed to have you and fido working together both physically and mentally. Teams of six (three humans, three dogs) will complete the course for time in order to be named the winner of the Sleep Rover Rally! Following the team event will be one final individual event where each dog/human pair has the chance to win a fantastic prize!

Warmer weather means pets are spending more time outdoors and have more opportunities to get lost or separated from their owners! Roots 2 STEM is a local not-for-profit educational facility in Calgary where students are able to experience STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) through innovative hands-on learning. Their first annual Steps for STEM walk/run on Saturday, July 1st at South Glenmore Park. The event is a celebrates Canada’s 150th birthday by building roots for a stronger future and supporting STEM education, which will encourage the future leaders of Calgary on their path to success. The event is dog-friendly and the route goes through the dog park area.

A dog-friendly geocaching scavenger hunt. Try your luck at collecting all the items in the shortest time! You will be given GPS coordinates for each location and the fastest teams will win a prize! Marda Gras Street Festival

The animals in our care love Christmas because it is the time of the year where we get to spoil them rotten with treats, toys and of course a whole lot of LOVE! We have been celebrating our furry friends during the holidays by hosting an annual event at the shelter called Christmas Party for the Animals. It is an especially festive event that will surely get you and your family into the holiday spirit!
